Naive plans for JumboCode
Happy Monday!
This marks the end of spring break for me, unfortunately. I spent a few days in Montreal with my friends last week, which was a whole lot of fun.
Earlier last week, I was told that I was picked to be the Head of Engineering for JumboCode next year! It’s a club at Tufts that I’ve written about before; it organizes about a dozen teams of 10 developers + a project manager, who build an app for a non-profit across the school year.
I didn’t want to get my hopes up about being Head of Engineering next year, but I’m super excited (and surprised) to have been selected.
I wanted to preserve a bunch of ideas for next year that I’ve been mulling over. I want to continue to introduce more people to the kind of programming that I find fun: building apps that real people are gonna use, even if that’s just a few friends.
I wrote a new post, “JumboCode Plans”, with the ideas that are in my brain right now. It’s a bit of a disorganized stream of consciousness, and I’m aware that eventually I’ll hit the constraints of the real world and my/others’ motivation, but I wanted to record my ideas precisely because I know my thinking will become constrained by reality.
A lot of the ideas are around teaching programming in a way that might be interesting. to people. Let me know if you have any thoughts about all this; I’d love to hear!
That’s all for now — I hope you have a great week.
