Building Stickies
Hello friends!
I spent some enjoyable days this week building a new app called Stickies.
It’s highly inspired by macOS’ built-in Stickies app.
I really like how you can put your digital sticky notes in spatial locations, and expect them to still be there later. I think it maps to the way my brain likes to think about and remember things.
The main feature I wanted to add on top of macOS’ version is the ability to hide notes that are no longer relevant, but to search for them and be able to recover them.
I also like that adding a new note doesn’t require finding a place for it in a larger hierarchy; you can just add something small in case you need it later.
I posted screen recordings and wrote more about the app, including the theming system I built that allows you to customize it a bit, in this blog post: ben.page/2023/04/stickies
While you’re on ben.page, you’ll also see the slightly different theme for April 2023 posts, and the new month switcher in the top-right corner.
And if you’d like to try it out, you can! It’s stickies.ben.page — let me know what you think.
That’s all for this week!
bye-bye,
Ben
