Subscription Updates
I Need Your Help
If you are a paid subscriber, AND you subscribed on Buttondown, the following does not apply to you, although you are welcome to read and comment.
I sorry to report that this migration has not been as seamless as I had hoped, at least in terms of paid subscriptions. It turns out that Substack's approach to paid subscriptions is not centered on the author or subscriber. When the newsletter was on Substack, the platform took a small commission on every subscription payment. I didn't object as I knew the commission helped them run the platform I was using.
However, even though I have cut ties completely with Substack, they have removed all of their subscription links and I have deleted all Substack content, the subscription fees remain. This means that when you renew your subscription, Substack is still taking a fee, even though they are providing no services. The subscription you signed up for remains in effect indefinitely and there is nothing I can do to remove the Substack fees.
