Welcome to Bedhead
Hello!
Bedhead is a free monthly hotel review from a solo female traveler, but it's for anyone and everyone who loves traveling and discovering new properties, or wants to dig into all the elegant minutiae that separates a good hotel from a great one.
Bedhead hotel reviews will come once a month and that monthly review will always be free—but I will offer a paid tier that comes twice a month starting in March. The subscription costs for the paid tier is $5/month and it will never go up. More on that in a few months.
In the future, expect to see collaborations with specific properties, travel brands, and other entities that might fit into the world of Bedhead. Full transparency, that will be my focus when it comes to monetizing the newsletter more than a subscriber model. But why not play with both?
The point of this newsletter is to create a new stream of income for me, a full-time freelancer, while also building and showcasing my knowledge as a hotel critic. I'm doing it for the love, and hoping the rest follows. Due to my own (current) interests the first months of the newsletter will focus on California and Southwest properties. If and when I do get into international recs, it will likely be in the paid tier. Do with that what you will!
Below is a layout of categories each newsletter will include, along with lots of photos. Fair warning, the reviews will be as brutally honest as I can be, though I'll almost exclusively put my time into writing about properties I think are worth visiting.
You Are Here
Location, location, location
Granular detail on where the hotel is located and how to get there, safety concerns that impact solo female travelers, and whatever intel I can gather on if the property is POC & queer friendly.
Size Matters
Bed review
Not all beds are created equal! I'll include mattress size, sheets info, a pillow report, and outline any unique turndown services.
Picture Perfect
Aesthetic rundown
Now more than ever, the people want the Instagram friendly guesthouses! This section will also analyze whether a hotel is brand new, a quick flip for the 'Gram, or actually renovated for quality.
Wants & Needs
Products and mini-bar
It always annoys me that hotels rarely include this kind of info on their website, so I will do it for them.
Water Me
Pool and gym
Busy-ness and availability will be discussed, along with a review of the facilities for useability, flirtability, photo opps, safety, etc
Libations
Food and drink
Some would argue this is the most important category for hotel success in the '20s!
The first real Bedhead review will come out in two weeks, on January 15 because I'm leaving for a two week New Zealand road trip the next day, and I need to feel productive before that happens. There will be photos. See you then!
