If someone is DMing you on social media, it is not me
Well! This is an unpleasant update to have to make! In line with a super gross trend that is hitting a lot of authors right now, I’ve learned that someone out there has been posing as me on Instagram (and potentially other social media). Apparently this loser is DMing people and pretending to be me, for unknown scammy reasons.
Let me assure anyone who this has happened to: this is not me. I have not been publicly on social media since 2016. I have never had a professional presence on Instagram, because I hate Meta with my whole heart. I am something of a modern-day Luddite and most definitely a forest-dwelling hermit, and even if I was on social media, I would not reach out to strangers like this! I’m a very private person and it’s not my style! I also wouldn’t use an old picture of myself from Wikipedia as my profile image, because I haven’t had long hair in years, you creeps.
If you’re reading this because this has happened to you, I’m really sorry about it. There’s very little I can do other than report these accounts as they pop up (and I encourage you to do the same). Come say hi to me at a convention or a bookstore, and we can commiserate about how people on the internet can really suck sometimes.
