An Introduction
Thank you so much for subscribing!
This introduction serves two purposes: ONE, as a test run for this platform to make sure I have everything working properly, and TWO, to explain what this newsletter will be and why I started it!
I have been meaning to start a blogging project for a while, but the usual social media platforms I had access to (Twitter/X, Tumblr, Letterboxd) didn't feel legitimate or official enough. Furthermore, with the rise of corporate conglomeration downsizing journalistic work, and the 2020 pandemic making finding work difficult for even the most seasoned veterans in my desired field, I felt incredibly discouraged from putting myself out there after graduation.
Now, with the proliferation of accessible platforms like Substack and Buttondown, as well as an abundance of ideas for essays, opinion pieces, and reviews bursting out of my head, I feel more motivated than ever to develop a proper writing voice and have a place to publish and archive my work!
This newsletter will cover various topics in arts, media and culture, including film, television, music, literature, and video games. I've spent a lifetime both enjoying and learning to think critically about what I consume, and with a communication degree under my belt, I'm excited to share my passion with a wider audience than simply brain vomiting to whoever I happen to be speaking to at any given moment.
Over time, I might develop this newsletter into something more substantial as it grows (perhaps a website where my work will be behind a cheap paywall), but for now and into the foreseeable future, it is free to read for whoever signs up, or views my archive. This week, I plan to write about Charli xcx's Coachella performance from Saturday and the first season of Common Side Effects.
Thank you again,
-Bea
