Update and This Week!
Hello!
Welcome new members!
Last week, Sam Bouveron and Michael Warren from Team Rochelle Park and I spoke at the Rochelle Park town committee meeting. Town Administrator Dean Pinto recommended to the mayor and committee that they endorse our letter to the county for a county-wide Complete Streets policy! Committee member Thomas Miller was VERY engaged and wants to get Rochelle Park going with passing CS ordinances and forming a Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee. Sam and I both emailed him with good info. Fingers crossed!
This week:
Wednesday May 1:
Bergen County Board of Commissioners Meeting 7PM 1 Bergen Plaza, Hackensack
We're going to urge the Commissioners to establish a Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee as a way forward... I don't know if they have the power to do so but I think they could ask County Executive Tedesco to do it. Also, there was another tragic, preventable death of a pedestrian at an intersection of two county roads. This time it was a 15 year-old girl in Ridgefield. I am in touch with her mother. We have to be very sensitive about how we bring this up... Please try to make it; even if you don't want to speak, your presence would be powerful. No virtual option.
Thursday May 2:
Fort Lee Town Council Work Session 6:30 PM Fort Lee Borough Hall
Fort Lee High School students will be giving a presentation urging the mayor and council to create a Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee AND to endorse our letter to the county. It would also be helpful to have a strong presence here. No virtual option. Note: the room doesn't really open to the public until after 7PM so you don’t really need to come until then.
And that's it! I hope you can make it to one or both of these meetings.
Oh, we're also on Facebook now.
Stay vigilant and visible!
Chris
