As we wrap up 2024, we just want to say a massive heartfelt thank you.
Year 2 of Base Arcade has been our biggest and best yet and it’s all because of you. Your support, energy, and love for the arcade mean more to us than we can put into words.
Our first event of the new year is 17–19 January at Banana Block🍌. Tickets are selling fast and we’d love to see you there to kick the new year off with a bang.

Tetris 40th Anniversary event
In late February we celebrated the 40th anniversary of Tetris at The Black Box in association with NI Science Fest. We had Tetris running on as many systems as we could find, including handhelds, PCs and arcade cabinets.
We held an epic competition and crowned our first ever Tetris champion.
New titles on the floor
This year, we freshened up the floor by adding a mix of classic titles from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as well as some brand-new pinball machines.
Finding, importing and restoring these machines is hard work, but seeing you enjoy them is genuinely one of the most rewarding parts of running the arcade.
Move to Banana Block
We left our original home in Oh Yeah to move to a bigger venue in Banana Block! An intense 12 hour move, thankfully with no casualties apart from our backs 😅.

UTV were kind enough to interview us for a part in their show “History in the making” Episode 6 where we talked about the craft, history and heritage of arcades.
Merch collab with Lazersteak
Our Mortal Kombat inspired hoodies and tees dropped just last month in collaboration with the mighty Lazersteak.

Street Fighter screening & competition
Perhaps our most epic night of the year was our Street Fighter themed night where we screened the 1994 classic with Ormeau Community Cinema, followed by our second competition of the year.
After feasting on some JCVD and popcorn, 16 of you battled it out to crown our inaugural Street Fighter II champion.
Portview Xmas Market
Being asked to take part in this epic market was a wonderful way to end the year. A huge thanks to everyone who stopped by our mini-pop up to get a ‘taste of Base’. It was amazing to meet so many new faces (and some pros returning to play the classics).
We’re really looking forward to 2025 and what’s next for the arcade. You can expect more new games on the floor, fun competition nights, and some exciting new collaborations.
