Original Joe's Family to Bring Fast-Casual Burger Spot to West Portal
The Duggans, who already operate Little Original Joe's and Elena's on West Portal Avenue, have announced a third concept for the neighborhood: Original Joe's Cable Car.
The family behind one of San Francisco's most storied Italian-American restaurant names is deepening its roots in West Portal. Elena and John Duggan, third-generation operators of the Original Joe's empire, announced this week that they will open Original Joe's Cable Car at 385 West Portal Ave. — the former Clay Oven space next door to their Little Original Joe's market. The new concept will be a fast-casual grill focused on burgers, chicken tenders, milkshakes, fries, and hot dogs.

Yellowstone Takes Over Parkmerced Redevelopment Parcels in Foreclosure — What Happens Next?

Yellowstone had originated a $101 million construction loan for developer Maximus Real Estate Partners in 2022.

West Portal Street Redesign Shows Results: Collisions Down 60 Percent Since Safety Overhaul
A new SFMTA evaluation report finds that the traffic-safety project installed after a driver killed a family of four at the West Portal Muni stop has cut collision rates dramatically and boosted sales tax revenue in the commercial corridor.
Nearly two years after a fatal wrong-way crash at the West Portal branch library killed a family of four waiting for a Muni bus, the city's sweeping redesign of the surrounding streets is showing measurable results. A new evaluation report from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency found that traffic collision rates in the half-square-mile area around the crash site fell 60 percent from October 2024 to March 2026, compared with the same window before the project was implemented.
