Five Months In, SoMa's $19M RESET Center Is Running at Less Than 30% Capacity — and Neighbors Say the Streets Feel the Same
A new SF Standard analysis finds the Sixth Street sobering center has logged roughly 450 admissions per month since May, far below its stated goal of 2,500 — while a longtime SoMa resident says conditions outside have not visibly improved.
San Francisco's RESET Center at 444 Sixth Street in SoMa opened on May 4, 2026, as Mayor Daniel Lurie's signature drug-enforcement alternative — a place where people arrested for public intoxication could sober up in reclining chairs under medical supervision instead of cycling through the county jail or emergency rooms. The $19 million converted warehouse, run by Connections Health Solutions under Sheriff's Office oversight, was designed to process as many as 2,500 people per month.

Wrecking Ball Coffee Plans a Potrero Hill Cafe This December and a Dogpatch Roastery by 2027
The Bay Area specialty roaster, which shrank to a single Cow Hollow shop during the pandemic, is expanding with two new cafes and a dedicated roasting facility — and two of the three sites are in these neighborhoods.
Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, the San Francisco specialty coffee company founded by Trish Rothgeb in 2011, is mounting a significant comeback after the pandemic forced it down to a single storefront. The SF Standard reported on September 24 that Wrecking Ball plans to open a second cafe at 1700 20th Street in Potrero Hill in December 2026, a third cafe at 3030 Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, and a standalone roasting facility in Dogpatch expected to debut in late 2027.

Treasure Island Density Expansion Still Awaits Board of Supervisors Sign-Off as Developer Eyes End-of-Year Deadline
Developer TICD is seeking approval to add up to 2,800 units beyond the existing 8,000-unit cap, but the proposal still requires Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors action before December 31.
The push to significantly expand housing on Treasure Island remains active this fall, with the developer — Treasure Island Community Development (TICD) — pressing for final Board of Supervisors approval before the end of 2026. A February 11 informational presentation to the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) Board outlined a proposal to add between 1,400 and 2,800 residential units beyond the current 8,000-unit cap, while maintaining the existing 27.2 percent affordable housing requirement and 5 percent inclusionary rate.
