Treasure Island's Long Bet Is Finally Paying Off — and the Nation Is Watching
With residents moving in, a new park opening, and a revised plan that could add thousands more homes, San Francisco's mid-bay island has become one of the few bright spots in California's housing crisis.
Three weeks ago the Washington Post published a deep-look feature on Treasure Island, framing the 576-acre former Navy base as a rare proof point in one of the nation's most housing-constrained cities. District 10 Race Tightens With Eight Weeks to November: What's Changed Since Labor Day
With the November 3 election approaching, the wide-open contest to succeed Supervisor Shamann Walton is settling around three leading contenders, and the neighborhoods of Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, and the Central Waterfront are among the key battlegrounds.
The race to succeed term-limited District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton — covered in this paper's Labor Day issue — has moved further into its final stretch, with the November 3 general election now fewer than eight weeks away. Eppler, the only candidates who have reported significant campaign finance activity with the San Francisco Ethics Commission.

Folsom Street's Big Final Month: A Block Party, the Fair, and a Neighborhood Between Two Worlds
SoMa's Folsom corridor closes out its summer season with the final SOMA Nights block party on September 24 and the 43rd annual Folsom Street Fair on September 27, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the same stretch of blocks within days of each other.
September is Folsom Street's most compressed and contrasting month. The Folsom corridor hosts two events — radically different in scale and character — within the same four-day window at the end of this month. First up: SOMA Nights holds its final 2026 installment on Thursday, September 24, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Folsom Street between 6th and 12th streets.
