Bruma, a Fog-Inspired Cocktail Lounge, Opens Monday at the Ritz-Carlton on Nob Hill
The Ritz-Carlton's new lobby bar draws on San Francisco's coastal mist and the neighborhood's Gilded Age glamour when it opens October 12.
Nob Hill's hotel row adds another destination this week: Bruma, a new cocktail lounge and all-day salon inside the Ritz-Carlton's landmark 1909 Neoclassical building at 600 Stockton Street, opens Monday, October 12. The 80-seat space was designed by the firm Fettle using a palette of aged brass, ocean navy, and espresso brown, with a custom mural that nods to the surrounding neighborhood. Named for the Spanish word for "mist," the concept takes its cues from San Francisco's iconic coastal fog.

Eviction Scare for 92-Year-Old Nob Hill Tenant Pushes SF Supervisors Toward New Law
Sue Yeng Yan has lived in her rent-controlled Jackson Street apartment since 1982; after a landlord used a clutter complaint to threaten her removal, two supervisors are now drafting legislation to protect tenants citywide.
Sue Yeng Yan, 92, has lived in her rent-controlled apartment at 1120 Jackson Street — along the Powell-Hyde cable car line in Lower Nob Hill — since 1982, paying $281.42 a month. In March, she received an eviction notice claiming her apartment was a nuisance because of clutter. Four other tenants in the 16-unit building received identically worded notices at the same time; at least three were senior citizens.

Chinatown's $150 Million Construction Push Rolls On — and the Broadway Tunnel Is Still Running at Half Capacity
Two months into a 14-month partial closure, drivers and Muni riders should expect continued delays through the Broadway Tunnel as crews work on all three simultaneous Chinatown projects.
San Francisco's Chinatown entered the latest phase of its $150 million infrastructure overhaul this summer, and the disruptions are ongoing. Three major projects — the $73 million Portsmouth Square renovation, the seismic upgrade of the Chinatown Public Health Center, and the renovation of the Chinatown/Him Mark Lai Branch Library — are being managed simultaneously by SF Public Works, with construction expected to continue into 2028. The Broadway Tunnel, which runs beneath Russian Hill and connects the neighborhood to Chinatown, has been operating at reduced capacity since August 17.
