80-Year-Old Killed by Tow Truck on Arguello Boulevard — While City's Funded Safety Project Sits Stalled
Yuan Jun Zhu was struck in a crosswalk near Rossi Playground on Monday afternoon; advocates warn that more than $1.3 million in committed safety funding may be lost if SFMTA continues to delay.
An 80-year-old man identified by Streetsblog San Francisco as Yuan Jun Zhu died Monday afternoon, September 28, after a tow-truck driver struck him in a crosswalk at the intersection of Arguello Boulevard and Anza Street in the Inner Richmond. The collision occurred steps from Rossi Pool and Playground, and the victim was transported to a hospital where he later died. According to SFPD public information officer Jennifer Gamble, the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators; no arrests had been made as of this writing.

Kitchen Commons Set to Open This Fall in the Former Spanish Table Space on Clement Street
Two Inner Richmond residents — one a co-owner of Liholiho Yacht Club — are turning a much-mourned retail vacancy into a neighborhood cookware shop with a café and cooking classes.
Jeff Hanak, a partner at Liholiho Yacht Club, Good Good Culture Club, and Nopalito, and Connor Bruce, a former Nopalito chef, plan to open Kitchen Commons this fall at 130 Clement St., in the space vacated by the Spanish Table, which closed late last year amid eviction proceedings. The store will be stocked with new and vintage cookware — cast iron pans, local ceramics, knives, specialty pantry items, and cookbooks — and will include a small café serving coffee and prepared foods.
