Waymo Robot-Taxi Pulls Itself Over in Outer Richmond After Spotting Ghost Gun on Seat

Interior cameras flagged a loaded, serialless AR-style rifle; two juveniles were arrested and booked at the Juvenile Justice Center.

A late-night Waymo ride through Outer Richmond ended in a felony arrest on the morning of September 3, when the autonomous vehicle's cameras detected a firearm and the company alerted 911 dispatch. The incident was detailed in the Richmond District police blotter published October 18 by the Richmond Review, drawn from SFPD records. According to that account, the vehicle's interior cameras observed a passenger who had placed a firearm on the seat next to him.

Permits were filed with the city on October 9, according to SF YIMBY and Hoodline. The 228 Collins LLC project — with Tim Brown listed as property owner and Kerman Morris Architects responsible for the design — would rise 87 feet on a 0.11-acre parcel.
