The Liberties, a Mission Institution for 25 Years, Goes Dark Indefinitely Over a $160,000 Loan Dispute

The Irish bar at 22nd and Guerrero has been shuttered since Labor Day weekend, and its owner says a lender lawsuit has frozen the bar's payroll funds and left its future uncertain.

The Liberties, the Irish bar and restaurant that has anchored the corner of Guerrero and 22nd streets in San Francisco's Mission District for more than two decades, has closed indefinitely. Owner Ian Duggan announced on Instagram in early September that the bar would close for Labor Day and reopen the following Tuesday — but it never did. At the center of the shutdown is a legal dispute over a business loan.

Preliminary Permits Filed for 45-Story Tower at 1601 Mission, Replacing the Tower Car Wash

The proposal marks a dramatic increase over earlier plans: an 11-story apartment building was first filed for the site in 2014, but the current application, sponsored by Manna Capital, seeks to deliver more than 500 units.

The District 8 supervisor race has entered a new phase this week after Manny Yekutiel's departure, with the three remaining candidates — Gary McCoy, Darshini Patel, and Michael Nguyen — fielding weekly policy questions from Mission Local. Published October 7–8, the latest installment of Mission Local's "Meet the Candidates" series asked the field how San Francisco can better support sexual assault survivors, a question that arose directly from the circumstances of Yekutiel's exit.
