Demolition Permits Filed for Potrero Yard, Marking First Physical Step in $612M Mission District Overhaul
New permits filed September 10 set the stage for demolition of the century-old Muni bus yard, though the wrecking ball won't swing until early 2027.
Demolition permits were filed September 10 for the 4.4-acre site at 2500 Mariposa Street, the first tangible paperwork milestone in the long-running effort to replace San Francisco's oldest bus storage facility. The filing moves the Potrero Yard Modernization Project — a $612 million overhaul unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 24 — closer to its next phase of site preparation. The project will gut and replace a bus maintenance and storage complex that has served Muni for more than 111 years.

Judge Throws Out All Charges Against 'Stud Alley 18' Arrested at Pride Street Party
A visiting Superior Court judge dismissed charges against all 18 defendants on September 14, finding police had not properly issued a dispersal order before making arrests.

The ruling closed a nearly three-month ordeal that defendants said had targeted the city's queer community. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins had charged all 18 with unlawful assembly, failure to comply with a dispersal order, and resisting arrest.

The nonprofit outlet, which focused on housing and civic issues for nearly a decade, announced it has run out of money — the latest blow to local journalism in a city already watching El Tecolote struggle.
The Frisc, a nonprofit San Francisco news site founded in 2017 with a focus on housing, transit, and civic accountability, announced this month that it will cease operations by the end of September. Editor-in-chief and co-founder Alex Lash cited financial difficulties and said the site had "pretty much run out of money," telling the SF Standard he was paying for the publication's farewell party out of his own pocket.
