KEXP Music Hub Planned for Haight and Ashbury Corner — But Six Small Businesses Could Lose Their Storefronts
SF Heritage has selected Seattle radio nonprofit KEXP and the Blue Bear School of Music to transform the historic Doolan-Larson Building into a broadcast studio, music school, and rooftop concert venue — a plan that has alarmed the merchants currently occupying its ground floor.
San Francisco Heritage has chosen KEXP, the Seattle-based nonprofit public radio station, and the Blue Bear School of Music as partners to reimagine the historic Doolan-Larson Building at the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets into a music and cultural hub. The announcement, first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle on September 17 and confirmed by multiple outlets, envisions a broadcast studio for Bay Area radio programming, a full floor of music classrooms for Blue Bear, a flexible street-level gathering space, and a rooftop venue capable of hosting around 100…

HANC Meets Tonight to Dissect 'Fatal Flaws' in Lurie's Citywide Rezoning Plan
The Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council's October general meeting focuses on Mayor Lurie's upzoning proposal — which passed the Planning Commission 4–3 in September and now heads to the Board of Supervisors — and on charter reform ballot measures ahead of the November 3 election.
The Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council holds its October general membership meeting tonight, Thursday October 9, at 7:00 p.m. in a hybrid format. The session is devoted to Mayor Lurie's sweeping rezoning proposal — what HANC describes as the largest city-initiated rezoning in San Francisco in 50 years, covering the entire Haight-Ashbury and most of western and central San Francisco.

SF Demands State Probe of 40 PG&E Blackouts — Haight-Ashbury Among the Hardest Hit Neighborhoods
City leaders sent a letter to state regulators this week documenting 40 large-scale PG&E outages since December, including a March blackout that cut power to 14,000 customers from the Castro to Haight-Ashbury and a Golden Gate Park-area outage as recently as October 6.
San Francisco city leaders filed a letter with the California Public Utilities Commission on October 8 demanding a state investigation into PG&E's reliability record. According to the letter, there have been 40 large-scale blackouts — each affecting more than 1,000 customers — since the December 20 disaster that darkened roughly one-third of the city, a pace of nearly one outage per week. The Haight-Ashbury and surrounding neighborhoods have been repeatedly affected.
