Uniqlo Opens Market Street Flagship, Bringing Major Retail Back to Downtown SF
The Japanese retailer returned to San Francisco's commercial core on October 9 with a two-floor store at 801 Market Street, filling a space vacant since Old Navy closed in 2023.
Uniqlo opened its new Market Street flagship store on Friday, October 9, marking the brand's return to downtown San Francisco more than five years after it closed its three-story Powell Street location. The new store occupies 20,315 square feet across two floors at 801 Market Street — the former Old Navy site at the corner of Market and Fourth — and carries LifeWear apparel for women, men, children, and babies, along with a repair studio, embroidery services, and a UTme! custom printing counter.

On October 1, the San Francisco Police Department implemented revised district station and patrol-sector boundaries at six stations — Central, Tenderloin, Northern, Southern, Richmond, and Park — following a unanimous 7-0 Police Commission vote in November 2025 and a mandatory 10-year boundary review required under the city charter. The changes are the first since 2015, when a prior redistricting vastly expanded Tenderloin Station to cover Market Street, the Westfield Centre, Sixth Street, and UN Plaza.
