Tetra Tech Pays $97 Million to Close Federal Hunters Point Case — But Neighborhood Residents See Almost Nothing

A federal judge approved the long-contested settlement this month, closing the government's case against the contractor that falsified radioactive soil samples — even as more than 300 neighborhood homeowners were separately denied any compensation.

SCRAP Reopens in Bayview With a Permanent Home Five Times Its Former Size

The beloved 50-year-old creative reuse nonprofit opened its doors at 141 Industrial Street this month, landing in a building it now owns outright after losing its longtime school-district warehouse lease.

SCRAP — the Scroungers' Center for Reusable Art Parts — celebrated its grand reopening on August 15 at 141 Industrial Street in the Bayview, completing a move that for years felt uncertain. The nonprofit, which collects donated materials that might otherwise be discarded and sells them at low cost to artists, teachers, and makers, had operated out of a San Francisco Unified School District warehouse at 2150 Newcomb Avenue for 25 years.
