Baby Ghosts goes to Alberta!

Hello ghoulings,

You may be looking at this header and saying... Alberta? Isn't that where they're banning books. (Ironic how they always choose to ban Orwell.)

Despite the conservatism brewing in Alberta, we had an amazing time at the GDX conference and expo this July in Edmonton, where the conversations were far more radical.

One of the core topics of the conference was "building a better games industry" and Baby Ghosts had the opportunity to speak on a panel alongside some of the studios we've supported about the power of cooperatives and worker-centric values.

We also had deep conversations around Microsoft's complicity in the genocide in Gaza and how this impacts developers. Rock Paper Shotgun just wrote an excellent article detailing these complexities which includes quotations from cohort 1 participant daffodil.

You can support them by buying their game Street Uni X on steam!

But that's not our only foray into Alberta.

Thanks to funding from the Canadian Media Fund, our pals at Interactive Arts Alberta and the Walkthrough Collaborative Centre are going to be running their very own Baby Ghosts cohort in Edmonton (and Alberta).

"There are a bunch of accelerators where their milestones are, ‘Have you hit this point in production? How close are you to release?’ But they don’t care how healthy the dynamic of the team is. They don’t care if you’re going to make it past your first game.” - Madison Côte

You can learn more about this initiative in our latest news coverage.

But there's more! It's not only Canada we're taking over. We also recently had the pleasure of speaking on a global panel hosted by CREW Digital, alongside tech/game cooperative members from across the world.

We'll also be giving a short talk at the Queer Games Con this September on “Queering Game Studio Economics: Sustainable Models for Precarious Times."
