dark angels, sad girls drifting around cemeteries, ornate crosses, vampires, skulls - everyone wanted to be dark and soulful in their online expression.
well, i haven’t grown out of it yet - so enjoy the 2005-era shrine to the gothic side of the web that our millenial teen girl selves would have loved!
i made a website of my own because I got tired of social media and wanted the internet to be a fun creative experience again.
i spent literal days digging up obscure corners of the early internet via the WayBack Machine, curating gothic digital art from the early 2000s, designing and then writing a pretty ornate blog post!
(i am a geek lol.)
the idea behind website shrines is to express your enthusiasm for something you love, and i wanted this shrine to millenial goth girl culture online to be a place to memorialise the kitschy silliness and fun of the old web. but i also want it to be a place that people like visiting for the vibes again and again - like a digital lounge room.
which is exactly what the old web was like.
you can find the full shrine, complete with blog post, right over here!
with love from Avalon ♡
