Writers Need Feedback

This might be taboo to say.

We've fallen so far as a society that not only is it uncommon, but it’s looked down upon to even imply that you 'need' anyone. 'Need' has become such a dirty word.

Writers need feedback.

And I'm not talking about the validation that comes when you realize someone posted a review of your book on Goodreads.

Writers need feedback.

And I'm not talking about the correction that you get from your editor when they return your manuscript with 10,000 comments.

Writers need feedback.

And I'm not talking about the 'you're doing great' generic comments that you sometimes get from family, friends, or co-workers.

Writers need feedback.

Writers need feedback that shows them that someone took actual time and energy to read that book/piece of material. Screenshots of favorite lines in the DMs. Comments about how a particular line made them swoon. Angry complaining about annoying characters. Clapping and kudos for happy endings.

Writers need feedback.

I’m tired of pretending that the silence doesn’t bother me.
