september newsletter!
birds and jams, as usual
happy september, dearest newsletter readers! i come bearing a handful of artwork and bug pictures!
my last month or so has kind of been shaped completely by my current lack of internet access (i hate you Spectrum) and i have been spending LARGE QUANTITIES OF TIME at our local library which has truly actually been very nice. being somewhere that isn’t the same room as where i sleep makes getting stuff done so much easier. i do miss being able to watch things on a screen bigger than a phone though…
after doing So Much Arting last month, i’ve been keeping it chill and only doing a little bit of commission work and attending to my etsy page (—stickers are due to arrive to me any day now, and as soon as i can get pictures taken and finish listings, you will be hearing about it!). i did do a study of a california condor parent with baby that got slightly out of hand. i did so much stylizing for my avian august pieces, and it’s really fun to come back to doing a more grounded image study but still taking with me all the improvements i made in other styles. art is fun!
here are some sketchbook snippets for your viewing pleasure :) you will be seeing more in the future, you can count on that!
in part because of the incoming cozy crisp weather, in part because of my lack of reliable internet access, i’ve taken up crocheting/knitting again :-) nothin’ chiller than podcasting and making a hat (sidenote on my current podcast listening roster - i shuffle regularly between Wonderful!, The Common Descent Podcast, Sawbones, and The Bald and the Beautiful currently. i also keep up with Just The Zoo of Us when they have new releases - highly recommend!) here is the hat i made a couple days ago!
bug pictures!! all taken.. quasi-recently!
and now the segment you’ve all been waiting for… music recommendations! my favorite icelandic musician Daði Freyr released his second studio album!!! its called I Made An Album. i love everything Daði puts out immensely, but notable favorites of this album are If You Want To, Limit To Love, Thank You, and Shut Up. if you’ve never heard of his music, i recommend starting with his 2021 Eurovision submission, 10 Years, a lovely song about his relationship with his wife. I got to see him in concert last year which was just the best, and i highly recommend if you’re into groovy synthpop and straight forward unironic optimism in your lyrics. my all time favorite Daði song is a strong tie between Skiptir Ekki Máli and Endurtaka Mig
other jams this month include
Purging The Demons by Shintaro Sakamoto (thank you spotify discover weekly)
Operator by Midnight Star (how’d they fit so many different meanings for operator in one song!?)
Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä (man i love eurovision)
that’s all for now folks! i’ll be back in your inboxes next time with new stuff available in my Etsy shop! thank you for reading ^__^
i hope you enjoyed reading this installment of my newsletter! if you have thoughts to share/questions to ask/fun facts to tell me about, please reach out to me by replying to this email, or messaging me on any of my social media linked on my website at augustcampbellart.com - thank you!
