A-V.J: The Visual Index
Welcome to part two of the slow archiving process for audio-visual.journal. This time, we are looking at an index for the visuals that appeared in journal entries from January to June 2024, and thinking through some of what came up while creating it.
Below are all entries featuring some visual element, categorized by type & grouped (into lines) according to month. The process for this was pretty direct as far as going from the spreadsheet to this version of the information. Some entries included multiple visual elements, so there are duplicates between categories. Image descriptions are not in the hyperlinks below, but some images will have them in the journal.

Some questions for further study:
a) Where do indexes appear in relation to visual work? (Perhaps film credits)?
b) How does metadata function as a site of repetition? What does this repetition have to offer?
c) What does the newsletter format have to offer in terms of re-gathering visuals?

This is part 2 of 3 of the slow archival process for A-V.J. Stay tuned for the next newsletter which will offer another alternative way of indexing & reading through the journal’s contents. Check out the previous newsletter for the A-V.J Audio Index.
Thank you for sharing your time with my work in this corner of the virtual void. 🖤
There are various ways to support the practice of A-V.J, including generously offering one time or recurring financial contributions, and citing the newsletter when sharing something you learned from here.
