What is the writing underneath the writing?

WHAT IS THE WRITING UNDERNEATH THE WRITING?

This is a question that I have been learning alongside for quite some time now in my art practice. More recently, it has opened me toward facilitating a service by the name of Rehearsing Writing.

Rehearsing Writing is a 1:1 writing consultation service for generating writing thru experimental pedagogies. I have prior experience as a writing consultant at the university level, developing a specialty of working with English Language Learners, and continuing with various English tutoring jobs for a total of 6 years. Within those spaces, I realized that the resources a consultant is able to draw upon are incredibly helpful, while also based on pedagogies that produce written work catered to formal academic settings, professionalized institutions, or standardized ways of speaking and writing in English. As the needs of my own writing practice have transitioned, I’ve found it more purposeful to draw on experimental, artistic, and embodied pedagogies in order to help move within the writing process. In Rehearsing Writing, my aim is to facilitate deepening the erotic capacity of a client’s writing sensibilities. Through process-oriented feedback, we will apply learning methods rooted in creative embodiment and wayward experimentation while navigating the generative phases of writing.

This service is envisioned for you if…

  • You want to return to, or deepen your engagement with, a writing practice.

  • You are a process-oriented learner, or you’re interested in releasing results in order to learn from a process-oriented perspective.

  • You have writing concerns related to the generative stages of the writing process (ex. showing up in your practice, brainstorming, concretizing ideas into text, accessing play or contemplation through writing).

  • You are a writer-by-Other-names: your relationship to writing transcends conventional boundaries of just being a quote-unquote ‘writer.’ Your writing capacity is something that is actively shaped by, and benefits from, the many other creative activities you do.
