Audiogames.net Monthly Digest - October 2025

Welcome to the October 2025 audiogames.net monthly digest! Halloween season is upon us, so it's no surprise some developers chose to create some appropriately spooky games, featuring zombies, skeletons, psychotic grannies and experiments gone wrong. But that's not all, because we also have a few more casual games for both PC and mobile, another very famous mainstream game getting an accessibility mod, and as always an absolutely loaded updates section.

Know anyone who'd enjoy getting these digests? Don't forget to let them know!

Adventure 4 - 1.0 Release (Windows)

Context

When I saw that the jam theme was "UNIQUELY YOU," I knew that I had to work on this project.

When I was first teaching myself python while I was in middle school, I made a series of three text-based RPGs called Adventure, Adventure 2, and Adventure 3. My brother is blind, and he found that he was able to play the games through the use of a screen reader. I was so excited to be able to share my interests with him.

So, I've always wanted to make "Adventure 4" as a callback to my youth. However, I never had the motivation to start on it. That was until this game jam. When I saw the jam theme, I knew that there was nothing more uniquely me than this game idea.

And so I started working, learning how to use NVDA myself to ensure that my game is accessible. I had to learn new libraries and solve problems I've never had to deal with before, and I'm very pleased with the final project.

Summary

Now, to actually describe the game: Adventure 4 is a text-based open-world solo-RPG where the player finds themselves in the Subterra, having fallen from the surface. On your journey through the hand-crafted caverns, you will fight greedlings and goblins, trek through pitch-black forests, and find some secrets along the way. Find gear, pick your strategy, and escape the Subterra.

Controls and Gameplay

The gameplay takes the form of menus which can be navigated either with the arrow keys or with the mouse, thanks to the urwid library.

For example, to interact with the Wise Figure, the first NPC you meet, select "Wise Figure," and then select the action you'd like to perform. In this case, begin by talking to the figure.

Save data will automatically be created for each of your characters in a folder marked "saves."

Changelog

2025/3/2: Fixed a bug that crashed the game when sharpening the Rusty Pickaxe.

2025/3/3: Equipping and buying items no longer spends your turn. Fixed a bug that caused Sharpening Stones purchased from the Thrifty Traveler to break immediately. Fixed spelling mistakes.

2025/3/4: Fixed an issue that would crash the game when talking to NPCs on an old save. Fixed a crash when sharpening the wooden shovel.

2025/3/5: Fixed crash when using backspace in the main menu. NPC items are no longer unobtainable.

2025/9/10: Many changes to fix bugs.

Ascending Match (Windows)

Hi all! It’s Kami Kitsune here. I don’t think I’ve ever made a post in this room before, but I’m so happy to finally bring this game to you all! For many years I’ve wanted to create a game. I remember spending countless hours trying to learn BGT and coming up with grandiose ideas. It wasn’t until late 2023 that I actually started coding—and now, I’m able to bring this project to life. Of course, I’m not the best coder, so LLMs helped me a lot, along with my good friend tsatria03. OI, stop rambling and tell us about the game already! Okay, okay—here we go. Ascending Match is a number puzzle game where you have to match numbers in order from smallest to biggest. The rounds are endless, but the difficulty increases the further you go. Features: - Endless gameplay – how far can you go before quitting from boredom or rage? - Local scoreboard – can you beat your old score, or was it just a stroke of luck? - Settings – configure the game to your liking. - Original sounds and music – nothing stolen, all created from scratch by me!

Dancing Disco in Elysium: Accessibility Mod (Windows)

Hi All, I thought some people on this forum might appreciate one of my recent projects. I've been working on an accessibility mod for the game Disco Elysium. For those who aren't aware, Disco Elysium is one of the best, and weirdest, RPGs of the past decade, at least. It's set in the year 51 of the present century, on a world which is mysterious and strange to begin with but you will gradually become very familiar with as you wander around. It's distinguished by its sheer amount of text, around 1.2 million words, and being incredibly dialog-heavy. There is almost no action to speak of, but there are skills and stats which are incredibly important. I'm honestly sad that no one managed to make it work before now. I've created, with assistance from Claude Code, a mod which supports navigation, dialog reading, and the game menus. It uses Tolk for speech output. A controller is recommended, though I may be able to add full keyboard support. I apologize for the somewhat mysterious nature of this message, but this really is an unusual game that's hard to describe. I definitely hope others will enjoy it as much as I plan to.

And the description of the game from Steam:

Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is the definitive edition of the groundbreaking role playing game. You’re a detective with a unique skill system at your disposal and a whole city block to carve your path across. Interrogate unforgettable characters, crack murders, or take bribes. Become a hero or an absolute disaster of a human being.

Full voice acting. All of the city's beautiful people are brought to life with full English voiceover. Play characters against each other, try to help them, or fall hopelessly in love as each word is spoken to you with the appropriate accent and emotion.

New political vision quests. Face the reality of your worldview as your political compass leads you down new paths. Discover more citizens, a whole extra area, and monumental sights as you leave an even bigger mark on the world by chasing your dreams.

Unprecedented freedom of choice . Intimidate, sweet-talk, resort to violence, write poetry, sing karaoke, dance like a beast, or solve the meaning of life. Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is the most faithful representation of desktop role playing ever attempted in video games.

Countless tools for role playing. Mix and match from 24 wildly different skills. Develop a personal style with over 80 clothing items. Wield 14 tools from guns to flashlights to a boombox, or pour yourself a cocktail of 6 different psychoactive substances. Develop your character even further with 60 wild thoughts to think – with the detective's Thought Cabinet.

A revolutionary dialogue system with unforgettable characters. The world is alive with real people, not extras. Ask probing questions, make insightful observations, or express your wildest desires as you play cop or something completely different. Disco Elysium's revolutionary dialogue system lets you do almost anything.

Carve your unique path across the city . Explore, manipulate, collect tare, or become a millionaire in an open world unlike anything you've seen before. The city of Revachol is yours for the taking, one small piece at a time. From the streets to the beaches – and beyond.

Hard boiled, hard core. Death, sex, taxes, and disco – nothing is off the table. Revachol is a real place with real challenges. Solve a massive murder investigation, or relax and kick back with sprawling side-cases. The detective decides, the citizens abide.

You can find a download link for the mod under post 77 in the thread. To leave feedback and interact with the developer and other players, you can post in the topic, or as preferred by the author to get the most recent information join the mod's Discord, the invite to which can be found in post 1.

Whether you're a fan of war stories, historical fiction, or deep moral dilemmas, Survive, Resist, Collaborate offers a gripping narrative adventure where the weight of war is felt in every decision. AI GENERATED CONTENT DISCLOSURE The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this: The game makes use of AI to enhance the player experience in the following ways:

Marketing and Menu Artwork: AI was used to generate promotional assets and in-game menu art. These assets were created based on original concept briefs and refined for style consistency.

Story Development: All storylines, characters, and branching decisions are original and human-written. However, AI tools were used to assist with grammar correction, spelling consistency, and stylistic polishing, ensuring a high-quality reading experience across thousands of branching narrative paths.

_Voice Acting: All in-game dialog audio is AI-generated using text-to-speech technology. _

There is no real-time AI decision-making or AI-driven gameplay logic. All player-facing content is deterministic and authored by the development team. MATURE CONTENT DESCRIPTION The developers describe the content like this: This game contains mature themes and content related to wartime survival and moral decision-making. Players may encounter depictions of violence, executions, and the emotional consequences of war. The storyline includes scenes that portray the harsh realities of World War II, such as:

Non-graphic depictions of physical violence and death

Themes of betrayal, resistance, collaboration, and moral compromise

Emotional trauma and psychological distress

Depictions of famine, illness, and civilian suffering

Implied war-related executions and suicide (non-graphic)

Occasional strong language appropriate to historical context

Player discretion is advised. This game is intended for mature audiences and aims to portray the emotional and ethical weight of life under occupation during wartime.

You can find a download link and installation instructions in post 381 of the Hades 2 accessibility mod topic.
  • LongevityWorld had a few updates in September bringing the game up to version 4.22. It includes a redesign of the bamboo forest map, new sound effects and music for time announcements and recent story content, confirmation prompts for escaping battles and many other fixes and balance tweaks.
  • Sonorous Arts are back with a brand new game being added to the Marvel Realm platform — Zero Stealth. In their own words: Zero Stealth is a single-player, first-person shooter that puts you in control of a secret agent for a private company. Armed with various tools and weapons, you're tasked with completing different kinds of missions around a large, dynamic map. This game involves stealth, shooting accuracy, and platforming. One missed shot and you might lose your target. One wrong step and you might fall to your death. The game is available both as a part of the Marvel Realm subscription, or can be purchased separately as a lifetime license.
  • Alter Aeon September 2025 Updates included many quality of life improvements. Crafting lists should be more screen reader friendly, the group show command will display the location of the group leaders, the soul forge spell automatically targets soulstones of the same color and there were more equipment and mob tweaks in the areas around Cordon. • ToyMania received a number of updates in September. Now at version 4.6, the game includes a brand new mode in which you have to defend the toy store (available in normal and endless variations), a new inventory menu, a buffer system for reviewing messages, new achievements, the ability to make custom sound packs and many other smaller tweaks and improvements.
  • SimpleFighter also received an update in September, mainly focusing on making the combat log more useful but also tweaking the bone breaking mechanics
  • Aurora4x 2.6 is, like most other updates to this game or the game itself, pretty massive. Some highlights as pointed out by our forum members include the AI being able to use carriers against the player, tweaks to prisoner interrogations, but that's just scratching the surface. The list of changes includes over 90 items classified as minor, followed by 6 pages of more significant additions which can be read about on the Aurora4x forum
  • THe reports of the impending death of Blades of Glory: Age of Legends turned out to be greatly exaggerated, with the game receiving a 1.2 update introducing some requested balance changes, followed by a bigger 1.3 update which introduces a champion system to the arena, makes double ingot events more frequent, buffs some weapons and introduces further balance changes. You can find the full patch notes here.
  • SoundRTS ultimate includes a number of new features which should make multiplayer much more interesting, including forming treaties and alliances, as well as the ability to play cooperative campaigns with a friend.
  • Sanctuary in Time, now available exclusively on Patreon due to recent Steam and Itch changes on distribution of games with adult themes, is now at version 1.4.8. The update now tracks the virginity state of your followers, includes new cosmetic and balance changes, and has various fixes including to TTS and keyboard navigation
  • Alexa minigames continues getting more content with 2 new games dropping in September. Pizza perfect, in which you have to remember what ingredients your customers have ordered, and imposter, in which you have to find the suspicious one out based on the codeword given to you.
  • Hearthstone continues its season release schedule, with Patch 33.4 introducing the Day of Rebirth miniset. The more recent 34.4.2 patch introduces various balance changes, both to traditional hearthstone and battlegrounds. Finally, patch 33.6 released at the end of the month announced Across the Timeways, the game's next major expansion featuring new keywords like rewinding time. The update also brought with it a huge mid-season shakeup to battlegrounds, with the end of quests marking the return of buddies, most hero powers getting completely changed, and anomalies on the horizon. The Hearthstone access mod was updated to work with the update, though the free card featuring the new rewind mechanic is not yet accessible.
  • Azmar Quest is finally available on Steam. Unlike the mobile versions which are free to play, the PC release is a one-time purchase, giving you access to all content of the game as well as some PC-specific quality of life features like various hotkeys to speed up combat.
  • Speaking of previously mobile only games getting PC releases, Fengshen Tale also received one. You can find a download link and instructions under post 32 in this thread.
  • Fruit typing challenge is now a commercial game, now updated with new difficulty levels and various powerups.
  • TableX 1.5 includes a new game — Penalty Kicks, in which one or more players try to score a goal while the others, playing as goal keepers, have to defend. Other new features include the ability to play Ludo in teams, changes to feature cost and number of coins earned through ads, and bug fixes.
  • Transport world simulator includes a bunch of bug fixes including making the game less chatty about green lights when the window is minimized, making the Class 59 and 66 internationally friendly and other small fixes.
  • Alcyone: The Last City now outputs all game text to the clipboard if TTS is enabled, making it possible to play the game with a screen reader's voice if desired
  • Depths of endor as well as its sequel, Endor awakens, received major engine updates which should improve the accessibility of the games. That said, some players especially on PC report difficulties with turning on the accessibility features.
  • Valve continues to improve the accessibility of Steam, with the September 9th update adding an accessibility settings menu to the regular (desktop) interface, which includes options to enable a high contrast mode, reduce motion and adjust text scaling. In addition, many controls received appropriate "accessibility annotations" which should made them read better with screen readers. If you are using Steam with a screen reader, I would still recommend switching to the beta branch and switching to the "big picture" interface, which includes even more improvements.
  • SwordyQuest, which we haven't yet talked about in these digests, came back from the dead recently with a bnumber of updates which introduce additional content to the game including new sounds, daily events, new minigames and more content for the infinite map, access to which now requires a subscription rather than a one-time purchase.
