Septemtober Updates
It’s fall!!! The end of summer saw the release of two new stories by me, an interview with my friend Victoria Scott, and a September reading series with Rika Clifton that I forgot to send a newsletter about! She was great! If you missed it, you missed beautiful poetry and all sorts of intricate formal rules. I told her I would try to write poetry following her instructions but I haven’t yet. Don’t tell her please.
We Deserve This - My interview with Victoria Scott
This was so fun! I talked with Victoria about her photography book We Deserve This at Elliot Bay in front of a packed room of people who knew way more about cars than me. Highlights include Victoria explaining her favorite cop car (very problematic) and detailing the best car to use for a hormone heist (very cool). You can pick up her book from Elliot Bay or order here. Check out her other work here.

New story - The Stages of Contagious Desire
A couple days ago, my latest story came out in Smoke and Mold. It is about trans/lesbian desire. I had a lot of fun diving into my old microbiology textbooks as I came up with inverted disease/infection metaphors. Read it here.

New Story - Real Women Don’t Watch Hypno (TABOO Anthology)

The Lilac Peril TABOO anthology I have a story in released early September with both an in person and virtual event. Since I don’t live near DC, I took part in the virtual reading, and enjoyed getting to hear several of the other authors read. The anthology features over 30 trans authors writing about subjects we consider taboo.
You can order a copy here. The print run is limited and the previous one sold out quickly, so don’t hesitate.
Here is a sneak peak of my contribution:

More info about the Anthology:
When the fact of our existence is taboo, what do trans people still not want to talk about, even amongst ourselves?
30+ trans writers and artists gesture towards this question in Lilac Peril Issue 01: Taboo, taking a hard look at what we would often rather ignore. There are all the ways we reproduce the hurts of the world onto each other: racism, misogyny, ableism, whore- and fatphobia. There’s kink and fetish and how we sanitize sex from ourselves. There are hot takes turned serious—Is our deep-set identification with children’s media holding us back? Can T4T actually solve the problem of relating to others? Could sissy hypno be hopeful?
In this moment of escalating hostility against us, we offer this: the works of trans writers and artists showing us what we do not always want, but often need, to look at.
Callum Angus is October’s Guest
Super stoked to have Callum Angus as October’s featured guest for TRANSplants Reading Series! I’ve known Callum for about a year now, and really love the way he thinks about stories. His insight is not to be missed.
October 4th 5pm at Charlie’s!
