2025 ended 38 days ago

Hello! Happy 2026! I assume it is going great; haven’t looked at the news, personally. I’ve been up to my usual: holding my hair dryer like a gun and blasting ICE cubes until they soak into the ground and disappear. What’s that about? Who knows. Anyway, here’s what’s going on with me.

Stepping back

Late last year I ended up getting burnt out and stopped writing for most of November and December. I decided I needed to some take time to reevaluate my priorities going in to this new year in order to free up time and energy. Therefore, I’ve decided to step back from running a monthly reading series. I put twelve events on last year, which turned out to be more than I could handle on top of a full time job and the various other commitments I have to friends, family, my creative pursuits, and my own health and wellness! Don’t get me wrong, it was extremely rewarding! I simply overextended. But, I plan to host the occasional salon/open mic/concert/zine release/party, so be on the look out for future announcements.

Cosmopolitran

Recently, I have been cooking up a new zine project with a few friends, and that collaborative project has renewed me. It’s called Cosmopolitran, and it is what it sounds like: a magazine full of joke articles, quizzes, and advice. Look for it to be released in the next couple months. I plan to host a release party, and I hope you will come out for that. Check out this sneak peak:

New Story - The Care of Corals

I’m so excited to be part of A New Session Issue 4. There’s no one else doing what they’re doing: distributing a Telnet based magazine with stories that change dependent on conditions specified by the author. Telnet is an old school protocol for distribution, but it’s very easy to use, and I encourage you to try it out (see instructions below).

Issue 4 is about upheaval, and my story hinges on rising sea surface temperatures. It’s about coral reefs and trying to change what you can in the face of overwhelming outside forces. I loved working with editor June Martin; what a treat! She really brought this story across the finish line.

Don’t want to bother with Telnet? The story will be on the web in a few days. Read here.
