Teachable, Wearable Futures
Good morning
It is a crisp and sunny morning here in Sussex, which despite everything

"I don't see any reason to be optimistic. What do you think the new year will bring us?"
"I believe it will bring flowers."
"Really? Why?"
"Because I am planting flowers."
If you need more planting optimism, have a watch of this STEPS Collective meetup.
Right then, onwards…
Futures Through Design
I am delighted to announce that myself and Dr Rob Phillips have designed a new open three-day course called Futures Through Design for the Royal College of Art in London.
Since January, I have also been leading an elective on Wednesdays called Design Innovation: Venture Creation for some of the Design Futures MDes students.
To be doing all this work at the world's leading art and design university – it has topped the global rankings for an amazing ten years now – is truly an honour.

Futures Through Design will run for the first time on Monday 7th July 2025, and you can find out all about it here.
Rob and I ran a short version of the structure this week for the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the RCA too, from which these pictures were taken.
It’s World Futures Day
Today is the fifth annual World Futures Day, as hosted by Teach the Future:
“For 24 hours, young people and the futures community and enthusiasts co-lead conversations about the future every hour on Zoom and live on YouTube. The objective is to provide a platform for all generations to share their aspirations, concerns, predictions, and visions for the future. It is a space to foster intergenerational dialogue where participants have the opportunity to voice their perspectives and feel heard. Sessions take various formats, from games and workshops to panel discussions and interactive activities.”

You should totally sign up, and go along to as many of the talks as you’re able.
It reminded me to share these T-Shirts again that we created to help raise a little money for Teach The Future too.

That’s all for now.
Get planting flowers, folks.
Cheers
John
