Archipelacon Progress Report 1

Archipelacon Members

Greetings From the Chair

The end of the year draws near, and that means Archipelacon 2 is only a bit over 6 months away! This means it’s time for our first Progress Report!

In this progress report we’ll give you the long-awaited information about the hotel blocks we have managed to secure. Unfortunately not all hotels are included in this, but we have also added information about other hotels and other accommodation options and how to book them.

As you might have seen, we are currently collecting programme suggestions through a form on our website. The programme team will be going through all the suggestions, and the selected programme participants will be contacted during the spring. Archipelacon 2 has no specific theme, so all suggestions for programme are welcome!

I’m looking forward to seeing you all in Mariehamn in June! I hope you have a wonderful winter, and a lovely 2025!

Accommodation

Mariehamn has a lot of options for accommodation. As tourism is a big thing in Mariehamn during the summer, there are enough hotel rooms for all Archipelacon members, but many hotels will most likely be sold out by the time of the convention. We’ve secured some hotel room blocks for our members, and we’ve collected info about options for people traveling with different budgets.

These hotels have promised to have a room block for us. Please notice that this information will be published on our website at a later date, so as members of Archipelacon 2, you have the option of booking your accommodation before anyone else!

Travel Info

Archipelacon 2 is not arranging a group travel Mariehamn this time around, so we expect our members to book their own travel. We are working on adding a more detailed info package of the travel to the website, which is expected to be published before the end of 2024.

However, if you are already looking to book your travel, here are some tips:

  • Most of the ferries from Finland, Sweden and Estonia stop very close to the city centre (1.7 km/1.06 miles), and there are taxis you can take from the ferry terminal to your accommodation. It’s also good to notice that some ferries might not stop in Mariehamn but in Långnäs or Eckerö instead. Check the ferry company’s website for information on how to get to Mariehamn from the port, if needed.
  • All the ferries stop for a very short time in Mariehamn: usually around 15 minutes. Make sure you are ready to leave when the ferry docks. Most people will be waiting on the correct deck at the door 10–15 minutes before the ferry docks. If you are taking your car with you, make sure you are at your car well before the ferry docks!
  • If you are flying from elsewhere in Europe or the world, it is most convenient to fly to Stockholm and take a ferry over from Stockholm to Mariehamn.
  • Although it is possible, we do not recommend flying to Mariehamn. The airport is small, and there is no public transport available from the airport to the city centre, so getting to your accommodation or the convention site might not be easy.

Hello From the Programme Team!

The programme team is collecting programme suggestions from all members of the convention. We welcome proposals for all kinds of programme items: talks/presentations, panel discussions, workshops, games, shows, performances, and whatever else you might come up with. While there is no specific theme for the convention, as Eurocon we are aiming at highlighting the wide range of science fiction and fantasy made in all around Europe and the world.

If you would like to be part of the programme, you can go to https://archipelacon.org/programme/ to find more information!

Questions About Memberships? Contact Us!

We are only publishing names of the people who have specifically opted in to have their name published either on the website or in our con publications, and use badge names when provided (badge name can be anything you wish, and does not need to be your legal name). If you wish to have your name added to or removed from the website, let the Registration team know. We’re happy to make changes!

Archipelacon 2 memberships are non-refundable, but they can be transferred to another person. If you wish to transfer a membership to another person, please contact the Registration team. Make sure to mention your name, the type of membership you want to transfer, and the full name, hometown and email address of the new member to ensure smooth transfer. All memberships are personal and the name of the member must match the name on our membership database. We are required by the Finnish law to know certain things about each member, which is why we collect this information from all members.

If you have any questions regarding your membership, please don’t hesitate to contact our Registration team at registration@archipelacon.org!
