Weekly API Evangelist Governance (Guidance)
Let’s give a big Monday shout out to our documentation partner Theneo and our SDK partner APIMATIC. API Evangelist storytelling occurs because of Theneo and APIMATIC, and I am thankful to have their support for this ride!
Most of my work these days is consulting for enterprises who are producing APIs, and are crafting services and tooling to help API producers to manage their APIs. The common thread across most of my work right now is that most of the companies I work with operate outside of the United States.

It is interesting to hear my customers talk about their views of APIs, and how they are using the United States as a lesson of what not to do with APIs, and how providing on-premise solutions for managing your APIs signals that you aren’t just in it for the data, with all roads leading to their cloud.

While learning more about the role that APIs play in the monetization systems for leading technology platform, I propose that the top three industries in need of regulation be payments, healthcare, and now advertising, as these are the areas that will have the greatest impact on our lives.

I have come to the conclusion that API products as defined by vendors is a fantasy, and enterprise product owners need to be pulled out into the world via their APIs, and it helps to showcase the entire team behind an API, whether they are internal, partner, or public—as it helps build awareness and trust.

APIs are how all of your digital resources should be made available, helping you develop more awareness around who is using your digital resources. Knowing your your API consumers, and employing rate limits across applications is how you defend against the reality that a lack of security in MCP was a feature and not a bug.

I am enjoying the focus on the fundamentals of API operations with my international customers. This combined with limited my exposure to the hype occurring via LinkedIn and other social media is making for some rewarding work, focusing on what matters to enterprises trying to sensibly manage their API resources and capabilities.
If you need API Evangelist to help out with API governance please let us know how we can help. And thank you again to APIMATIC and Theneo for their continued support. If you are interested in sponsoring our work and site please review out sponsorship package, and drop me an email today.
