[a pleasurable headache] it's not complicated
So, this was announced during the week on Twitter:
💀SHORT SCARES TOC ANNOUNCEMENT!💀
— 🎃Jack O’ Lauren🎃 (@writerlcarter) October 10, 2023
*69 two sentence horror stories from 69 authors
Coming Spring 2024
*This was not planned, I swear
And if you've seen this already, no you haven't... pic.twitter.com/EwyB5yHyLu
As you can see, there's a familiar name among the 69 authors in the TOC.
This was a very fun (but challenging) one to get right. Proceeds from the anthology will go to the very worthy cause of the charity Mind, here in the UK.
Links
I could list a long list of links I've read throughout the week on Israel/Palestine, but instead I'm going to post the below. Whilst the destruction Hamas has wrought on civilians is wrong, history did not suddenly begin on October 7th 2023. The video is a few years old (rest in power as always, Michael Brooks), but is unfortunately no less pertinent:
What Happens When James Ellroy Gets Mixed Up with Marilyn Monroe?
<https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/09/18/the-enchanters-james-ellroy-book-review>
Another piece on James Ellroy's latest, this time it's more of a review, as well as a commentary on how he treats and engages with the very real figure of Monroe.

Domino (18 years later)
<https://outlawvern.com/2023/09/28/domino-18-years-later-revisit/>
I always love it when film and TV critics come back to something they've previously engaged with, looking at it through a new prism of experience and changing tastes. This review (like the recent one on Man on Fire) is looking at one of Tony Scott's fils, Domino. I have a soft spot for the absolute insanity of editing and flurry of stylistic choices present in the movie so Vern's 'revreview' was a good read.

Christopher Columbus And The Replacement-Level Historical Figure
<https://defector.com/christopher-columbus-and-the-replacement-level-historical-figure>
This article is over two years old at this point but I missed it the first time around. I'm currently reading Wyman's book The Verge where he talks more about the period in question, but thought this was a great antithesis of the 'great man of history' threory.

Everyone loves a list.

I'm using Twitter less and less at the moment as the dumpster fire continues. I have, however, been using BlueSky. I check in once or twice a day and that's it.
I have 4 invite codes to BlueSky for anyone who hasn't already received one. First come, first served to those who email me back with a request.

I'm off to hope against hope. See you in two.
