The punk paper returns next week - subscribe, find a copy, Get To The Gig

Another Subculture

The template for Another Subculture, as my cat Xerox (yes, really) looks on

Hello again, paper punk rockers. A brief return to the newsletter for the newsletter to tell you that Another Subculture will return next week, with listings for September 2025.

I’ve had my break, swapped a few things around in life and brain, and miss keeping track of what’s been happening - although I still recommend DIY Listings London, Eroding Empire and the London Sound Index for their loud night collating! - so the punk paper’s returning to an easy A4 two-colour pick me up, where the aim remains to fit as many gigs, and indeed words and pictures, that the average punter is still able to read on the bus home.

So, here is the plan going forward!

  • Every month, I will post listings to anyone who has upgraded to a paid subscription on this very email list - from £3 a month, as long/little as you like. Subscribe here.

    • Other ways to support the running costs: donate any amount via Ko-fi, or buy a tote bag from the resurrected website.

  • I will then distribute the zine in the usual places around the capital, including BOOKS Peckham, The Shop, Tome Records, WASTE!, World of Echo, All Ages Camden and a few new places too. There’ll be a stockist list very soon, and I’d like suggestions (and perhaps help getting them out there?)

  • The listings will also be available as a PDF online (the front page only!).

  • Listings and submissions for each month will be open until around the 20th of each month, and then I will get printing shortly after.

The back page will continue to have friends and well wishers writing in, sharing live photos and whatever else makes sense from the last month in gigs - starting with a review of Supernormal festival from earlier this month. I’m always keen too to hear of any news on events, protests, zine/book fairs, screenings and whatever else you think constitutes radical activity - and I’ll fit them in somewhere every issue.

I should say too that I have started using the Sony Cybershot once again, resulting in excellent gig photography like this picture of (the amazing) Gorgon Vomit:

The singer from Gorgon Vomit moshes on stage as dry ice envelops the outdoor stage, the bass player to the right with Big Riffs

If you have a Mavica floppy disc camera, or just know where to get some decently priced film, or can take photos correctly - let me know and I’ll get them included, no halftones spared.

So there we are. I sincerely hope that all this remains useful and keeps you in the loop; there’s a lot of great stuff out there still, landlords be damned. If you are at a loose end these last weeks of August, go to Sunday School V at New River Studios right now, or check out Lost Wisdom’s weekender at the Ivy House on August 29th-31st.

Take care – free Palestine & the 24 – GET TO THE GIG.
