SEPTEMBER listings out now - see you at PageMasters' zine fair (& Cahyati Press)
Hello, paper punks.
This is the month where everything gets colder and wetter and there's like a festival or an alldayer every week. Tomorrow (1st September) there's the Fuzzbrain extravaganza Hoodstock at Colour Factory, there's a weekend of sheer noise and grindcore at Chimpyfest next weekend and then after that, oh boy, the final Static Shock Weekend. Got a plan to "document" it — take some photos, get some vox pops — so if you're going and want me to record your substance-enhanced thoughts and feelings come find the big guy with the MiniDisc hat.
Took the day off work and got the September listings in some of the usual spots around London, so go find if you're heading to BOOKS, World of Echo, All Ages, the Record & Book Bar down West Norwood way and more besides; you can also download the PDF right now. Patreon people got theirs early, so sign up there to get the post! Much to enjoy this month, had to get the thin text out for all those line-ups too, whew...
Some news:
I'll be tabling at the PageMasters Summer Fair this weekend (Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September)! Bringing everything I've got left - Scunthorpe zines, badges, a few T-shirts left too. There's a top roster as ever and it's free entry down at the South London Gallery, so see you there.
Alternative Strategies is going to be available at Cahyati Press and em—dash's collaboration... in Bali! The island's premiere zine spot is celebrating alternative publishing in the UK and fellow travellers Sticky Fingers and School of the Damned have sent their best over too. Just excited to get the zines further afield, so very happy about this!
Oh yes, and there was an announcement this week: Another Subculture is Ten and I'm putting on a two-day jolly to celebrate and bring some of my favourite bands together. Hardcore and dancing at Spanners in Brixton on Friday 24th November; an alldayer of great stuff at the Ivy House in Nunhead the next day. The line-up and ticket details will all be revealed next month...
That'll do for now - get to the gig, enjoy yourselves, hope you don't get that cold going around (keep on those lateral flows too!) I'll leave you with Devo performing 'Girl U Want' on French TV back in the day; their perhaps final UK performance at Hammersmith Apollo was a victory lap to savour. Good night, spuds - - B P
