July 2024 listings out now + zine fairs + Attempting Something
Hello, paper punks.
Summer is here, the football is blocking out the election in about two thirds of my brain (would it have been funny if England were knocked out just before the polls, yes it would; Switzerland, best of luck!) and of course there’s loads to see. July’s listings are out now - subscribers will have theirs in the post but you can download the grid for your fridge here.
On the back page of July’s issue are some photos from the final Static Shock gig, an event which capped off the most visits to New River Studios in recent memory - their new bookers are off the charts, even as I continue to wish for more options south of the river. (Sister Midnight have their lease, and I need to check out Endeavour down Deptford Broadway sometime, there is still hope!) As ever, if you want to read in print we’ve got a Patreon and a subscription option, or you can go find copies at places like TOME, WASTE, BOOKS and all the other capital letters.
Submit your AUGUST 2024 listings by Friday 19th July here.
BrewZine this weekend, How To Catch A Pig and Cafe OTO next weekend
Three more places to grab some paper (or a badge, shirt, or mag!) - I will be tabling at BrewZine 2024 this Sunday! It’ll be at Gipsy Hill Brewery’s taproom down south (directions here) and with the organisers harking from last year’s excellent SLZCF, it should prove to be a lovely afternoon. Bring cash, get paper.
Next weekend I’m also tabling at the afternoon section of How To Catch A Pig’s newspaper launch, which’ll be at Signature Brew’s Haggerston venue on Friday 12th July from 2pm. More seditious literature, excellent. And then, Saturday 13th July brings Cafe OTO’s summer fair and I’ll be there too. Say hello, take some listings, let me know what gigs you’ve been going to.
Attempting Something (and weekends for your diary)
Did you enjoy Another Subculture is 10 last November? Good, so did I, so we’re doing it again. Venues are booked, lineups being assembled, expect a mixture of genres like you’d see in the paper? More next month.
In the meantime, if you’re hankering for several days of bands and mates - there’s Decolonise Fest and Oh What Fun coming up in London this September, with great weekends all over the place in Sheffield, Glasgow and Bristol over the summer too…
That’s everything I’ve got for July - although I would recommend also subscribing to Repetitive Strain’s newsletter for more headache brain punk news from the radio show I’m half responsible for. Any way to avoid X, you know? Take care, get the suncream on, ceasefire now, best of luck / / B P / A S
