Another Subculture - this week's noises - September 9-17 2021
Hello, paper punks. Got this month's newsletter? Rolled off the fine presses of Pagemasters into my hurried hands and you will be finding them in various places around the capital (like last Thursday's Trash Kit gig, which was obviously a joy - and the usual nice places once I get around town this weekend). A plan for October is to send them to get printed with more than six hours to go in the month - bit like Peter Saville in 24 Hour Party People isn't it? A road to perhaps avoid.
As ever, a big thank you to New Patreons and people buying badges and papers - edging closer to not losing money on the grid of gigs. This is also maybe when each week's email will arrive - before work ends on a Thursday, prime nearly weekend time, something like that, here goes...
ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES: LINKS & VIDEOS
Sister Midnight Records‘ ongoing campaign to buy out The Ravensbourne Arms by Lewisham Hospital, turning it into a new pub and DIY music venue, has stepped up a notch - as well as an all-dayer in October headlined by Porridge Radio they are holding a campaign launch evening at 7pm on Monday 20th September at the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham. More information on their socials.
An der Autobahn, a well good punk space in Neukölln, has been releasing a stready stream of podcasts full of tunes and insight while they fundraise for “Berlin’s last independent bastions of hope,” all on Patreon - until now. While I still recommend you give them your spare euros, you can now listen to all episodes of Pinkelpause on Mixcloud now.
Garden Centre appeared as the latest band on Gob Nation TV - following on from their boptacular set at Venue MOT, the night where every conversation was “this is odd, isn’t it?” Watch their full set.
Pest Control are a wicked new thrashin’ hardcore band from Leeds - they played with The Flex up at BOOM (formerly the Temple of) last week. Watch their full set here. Looking forward to seeing them at Damage is Done II.

COVID TIME: For all of these events: regardless of the venue’s policies - do not attend if you have any COVID symptoms or haven’t tested negative on the day or just before. You can order free NHS lateral flow tests online, right now (you don’t have to swab your throat anymore, thank fuck) online right now, or go to your nearest pharmacy. Venues with security staff have been asking for negative tests or vaccine passports as of late so be prepared.
If you haven’t been vaccinated and you are able to get vaccinated, go to the NHS website and get that booked.
Okay, there you go, plenty to do. Getting the October issue together and remembering that it’s Halloween soon, so it’ll be orange and spooky. See you next week! — B P / A S
