Another Subculture - this week's noises - September 17-24 2021
Hello, paper punks. Welcome to that part of the month where the last minute announcements haven't made the print edition and everyone wonders about what the holidays will bring. Fests, mainly. And flu jabs. I look forward to one and then the other!
I'm putting together October's issue this weekend, although as you would perhaps expect with the uncertainty and the case rates going down and up and down again, I can't see much in terms of Halloween nights being organised. Hopefully I'm wrong, and hopefully you're not planning on dressing up a Chris Whittey so if you see a spooky event - IRL, online, punk, DIY, whatever - email hello@anothersubculture.co.uk or get in touch through the socials.
Going to once again big up the Sister Midnight consultation meeting at the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham this coming Monday night; it is the launch of their community share offer which offers you the opportunity to invest in their plans and the pub from £25 a share. Would be great to see another venue emerge that isn't in an industrial estate and somewhere that can continue to foster the DIY community, just as their Tanners Hill shop did in recent years, except in a venue where I can't fall down the stairs.
And also, because it's outside, I implore you to go to Folkestone Gardens in New Cross (at the end of Surrey Canal Road) on Saturday 25th September and watch The GN Band, Layback, Chump, Powerplant and Makeness perform surrounded by skaters and cool kids in one of the best parks in south-east London. Flyer below.
(Yes, I am aware of my south London bias. Need to get back up east more, give me excuses!)

You can order free NHS lateral flow tests online, right now (you don’t have to swab your throat anymore, thank fuck) online right now, or go to your nearest pharmacy. Venues with security staff have been asking for negative tests or vaccine passports as of late so be prepared.
If you haven’t been vaccinated and you are able to get vaccinated, go to the NHS website and get that booked.
And there we have it. More gigs and grids soon. Heard Amyl and the Sniffers on an iPad advert so this punk thing might yet be massive. With luck! -- B P / A S
