ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES - a new risozine, out now
Been a while, paper punks.
Another Subculture presents Alternative Strategies #1, a quarterly riso zine with 32 pages of interviews done outside venues and over powerlines, features on Pico-8s, cameo appearances and pop epiphanies, new routes to New River Studios and a cycle through the red metropolis. 'Punk' people writing about whatever they like, on the back of a lockdown of zine swaps, inaccurate listings pages and many, many ink cartridges.
32 pages of punk paper. Interviews with Brainrotter Records, Gob Nation, SUEP, Flo Dill (NTS) and Alex Shen (Marbled Eye, Lower Grand Radio); new writing by Creg Clarrrk, Elena Colman, Ben Haggar, Satori Kurosawa, Heather McIntosh & Ben Perkins, and photography by Karim Newble and Alex Wickenden. The front cover is by Tommy Brentnall. Printed by Pagemasters in New Cross.
You can buy this issue right now for £6.00 plus postage online right now.
There will also be copies at the Brixton Readers and Writers Zine Fair on Saturday 14th May, at Brixton central library from 12-4:30pm, and copies will find their way into reputable zine haunts in the coming weeks (if you have a shop or an online distro that sells good zines or Hardcore Music, email for wholesale rates!) I'm currently sat in my partner's studio where we are folding and stapling away, and we're extremely excited to get these out to you.
As you might expect, this is the replacement for the Another Subculture listings page. I may get back into the grid business soon, but I'm still waiting to see how the dust settles post-lockdown - in the meantime, I highly recommend you bookmark the DIY Listings London webpage and find the noises.
I do have a couple of events you may be interested in: Repetitive Strain are hosting our first club night at Spanners in Loughborough Junction (between Brixton and Camberwell) on Friday 20th May with Soft Quest making a guest appearance. Tickets are £6 advance on Resident Advisor.
And then, all being well, Another Subculture will be holding a midsummer matinée at Avalon Cafe on Sunday 26th June. Save the date, give me your gig streaming advice and I will see you in the pit with an espresso and a pint...
