ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES #4 OUT NOW - Static Shock, Juliet Jacques, Mega-City One
Hello, paper punks. One more issue for this calamity year! The fourth issue of Alternative Strategies is available now on the Another Subculture website, at PageMasters' Winter Fair this weekend at the South London Gallery and in shops/distros in the coming days.
More punk paper. 40-page riso zine looking back and wondering where we go from here.
Static Shock Weekend is remembered through a post-festival pint with Tom Ellis and photos and art from Leigh Arthur and Lukas Fraser; we interview Juliet Jacques about her new play We Need To Talk, the headrush that was 2017 and the usefulness of post punk forty years on; PC World’s William Dante Deacon interviews Michael Molcher about the links between Judge Dredd, Mega-City One and the history and affect of British policing. There are also exclusive comics from JMKE, Jonny Brokenbrow, Leomi Sadler & Richard Short and columns from Tom Oberst and Creg Clarrrk.
Edition of 250, printed by PageMasters in Paco cyan and black in Lewisham town centre, December 2023. Autumn officially ends on December 22nd and this issue isn’t late at all. This may be the final Alternative Strategies, but much more paper to come in 2024. ANOTHER SUBCULTURE.

Two things to add. First of all, there is also a sale of sorts on the website too: all the badges, the Post Punk pandemic zine and remaining T-shirts are all half price! There's also a few risographed posters from Another Subculture is 10 (which was great, thanks for asking); those are £12 including postage and all the proceeds will be going towards Medical Aid for Palestinians.
And secondly - been thinking about where to take the listings and the zines after a silly busy 2023, and there is a plan forming: to go back to the beginning with a monthly A3 combo of all the gigs and all the goss. Listings will therefore return in early 2024, and Alternative Strategies will fold back into the one-page monthlies. Might even bring back the punk agony aunt idea, who knows. Full details in the new year!
In the meantime, the best sources for gigs are the DIY Listings London website and Foundation Vinyl's newsletter. Gob Nation's Christmas party up in New Cross next weekend looks a corker, and Matchstick Piehouse still needs your help to combat the bastards of The Arch Company; events have been coming through to support that great venue thick and fast so keep an eye out.
Take care, happy holidays, Free Palestine and a merry jingle for all. B P / A S
