Southern Oregon Coast: Hughes House
The Cape Blanco Heritage Society runs a partnership for three historical locations around Cape Blanco and Port Orford. The Historic Hughes House was home to Patrick and Jane Hughes and their seven children on acres of dairy and farm land along the Sixes River. One child, James Hughes, went on to serve as Cape Blanco Light keeper for 38 years.
The home is a fully restored 1898 Queen Anne Victorian and took the Hughes 30 years of work shipping butter to San Francisco to afford to have it designed and built. Today it is housed with an incredible collection of period antiques and furnishings. When we were there, there was only one other set of people visiting, and the volunteer docent made us welcome to wander alone through the house or have her accompany us with information.
I’m not sure I have something to say for every image, other than my own feelings about it or what I noticed and tried to take a picture of. Here, obviously, the glass light shade was casting a bubbly pink reflection on the ceiling.
I think this is a Durand Victorian pump organ.
Every bedroom has a gorgeous matching period bedroom set.
Indoor plumbing in the middle of nowhere Oregon in 1898.
Even I am jealous of the kitchen pantry.
I think I would eat anything cooked in or on this range.
