Southern Oregon Coast: Ariya’s Beach
To the north of the Crook Point cabin is a long series of beaches and the Pistol River. Our “Day three at The Cabin” day trip was mostly an attempt to find respite from the previous day’s smoke and as we headed to Gold Beach to the north, away from the Chetco Bar Fire, we ended up spending most of the day at one of the beaches along the way: Ariya’s Beach.
Ariya’s Beach is really nothing more than a pullout off Hwy 101 and a series of paths beaten down to the beach below. It is unimproved and provides no services, water or restrooms, so come prepared. A wide expanse of beach and open coast dotted with giant rocks, arches, sea stacks, and near-islands, extends in either direction for a couple miles. The Meyers Creek Beach is to the north and the Pistol River is to the south.
The air that day fluctuated between refreshing and cool breezes off the ocean between the sea stacks and warm and smoky downslope drafts from the Chetco Bar Fire inland.
After losing track of time and spending several hours exploring the beach during the rising tide, we went to Gold Beach to the infamous Gold Beach Books (I bought two books!) and had a late lunch at Barnacle Bistro, which came recommended during my research for the trip.
