PNW Gardens: Sebright Gardens
Every year an early weekend in April is dedicated to hardy plants at Hortlandia and one of my favorite vendors is Sebright Gardens. I’ve purchased several dozen plants and most of my hostas from Sebright. If you can’t make it to Hortlandia, many of the nurseries have open days or weekends, attend other Oregon and Washington plant shows, provide website and mail order options, or you can just visit the nurseries during their growing season.
It’s nice to make a day trip of visiting the gardens and nurseries in the Salem area. The Willamette Valley is littered with nurseries and garden centers that can easily eat up an entire Saturday (and Sunday!) if you have the time. The popular Cascade Nursery Trail includes Sebright and several other favorites. Be sure to check each individual nursery on the trail for their respective hours and days of operation when they’re open to the public.
Sebright specializes in shade plants, such as hostas and epimediums. But they also have a specialty bearded iris garden, Mid-American Garden, so be sure to check it out too while you’re there. If you are an iris fan and time allows, the Schreiner's Iris Gardens is an easy add-on to a visit to Sebright (this series will include a post for Schreiner's eventually).
