Fall in Earnest
Fall is finally meaningfully here. Less than a month ago we had air quality alerts due to seven or eight wildfires in vicinity, and temperatures were still in the mid-70s to low-80s. But the rains and cool temps are back and the trees on my patio are beginning to put on their show around three weeks later than last year.
This little maple came from The Maple Lady in SW Washington. It has a very long name that is not on the tip of my tongue right now, but if memory serves right it originates from the Korean peninsula. It has green leaves during most of the year, but the colorful red stems bely the magnificence to come.
It really wants out of this pot, but I cannot plant it in my soil. I have had other Japanese maples succumb to verticilium wilt so I will not put another one in the garden outside of a container. Eventually, I will put it in the large container my DeShojo is in and the DeShojo will go to a new home.
