Andy's discoveries and musings - Issue #3
Happy mid-February!
Thank you for the comments on last week’s newsletter - interesting to know how things are developing, and what catches your attention.
I’ve been podcasting…
Our weekly podcast - this time covering AR & VR in performances and games, interactive art, feline camera filters… and making music with frozen clothes.

… and, I’ve been making things
Owl LED Nightlight A couple of years ago, I picked up a simple LED nightlight on Amazon, with the intention of hacking it to do “something more interesting”. The lamp could be powered with AAA batteries or a micro-USB connection, and contained multicolour LEDs that shone up into a perspex sheet in the shape of…

More to come here - I’ve been having fun with soldering, and making, and revisiting old projects.
Tumblr could be a platform for newsletter writers and other creators

As I mentioned in the podcast, I grew up in Portsmouth UK, and my academic background is literature, and I love virtual and augmented technology, so this is fascinating to me.
Motion sensors on actors in Dream will let them interact with their surroundings and the audience.

I live in the world of APIs. As I Tweeted this week, this is interesting. I’m familiar with Postman (and was at the Postman Galaxy conference a couple of weeks ago); Kong bought Insomnia, one of my favourite Open Source API tools; and now RapidAPI has scooped up Paw, another tool I’ve used extensively.

(more snow in London didn’t happen, BTW, but it WAS a very cold couple of weeks… and the River froze for a bit)
UK experiences coldest February night for quarter of a century

Music…
Charlotte is a London busker I first came across maybe 8 years ago, possibly more? She has a number of albums to her name, when busking on the South Bank of the Thames she is always incredibly cheerful, and I’ve been to several of her gigs. Also doing a great line in lockdown sets online! Worth a listen, in my view.
Charlotte Campbell is a singer/songwriter and extremely polite and cheery street performer from London. Charlotte writes observational dittys that will haunt your soul and takes songs all over London.

Lego made a white noise playlist featuring the Lego bricks, and it’s surprisingly relaxing. Some tracks sound like you’re sitting next to somebody shuffling through a pile of bricks while working on a build, and other tracks use Lego bricks to make creative soundscapes.

My wife is making some lovely family history products - and, can help with your research. If you click no other links in this edition, do take a look at her shop and at her blog and site, thanks!
