Hello,
It's me, Andy. Another week that dashed by in a flash without completing all the things on my 'to do list to stave off an overbearing sense of dread' but that's ok as I rode my bicycle with a friend on Weds after work rather than looking at my phone. I even managed to put the hurt on him a bit which did great things for my fragile male ego but less for my ability to walk the next day. Anyway, enough... to the links my friends...
The dog link
Let's get the important bits out of the way first.
Currently 50/50 on whether I'd prefer to be the dog or be carrying the dog. Both look equally fun. Is this a philosophical question for our time? Maybe not.
I went and photographed every lock on every beach hut in Brighton
Exactly what it says. Colourful, joyful and brilliantly consistent in execution. Original
source.
The way daft punk flipped the sample for one more time
I did not know that it was an Elton John track... and it is mind blowing to have the foresight and ability to manipulate music in this way. You know it's genius, but even more so when you see it like this.
On the back of this I found there are whole
YouTube Channels for understanding samples and also found this Twitter thread "Here are some songs that you
mightn’t have known were sampled" which is really really really good (Go easy on the superlatives Andy). Also this site with
sample facts. (That's enough on the samples chat Andy).
Daft Punk French marching band
More joy and even better to see Trump not really getting it. Really made me smile and might make you smile too. Hopefully Daft Punk splitting up means we get lots of exciting solo projects instead perhaps. Link via
Neil. Yes, this is now a Daft Punk themed email newsletter.
Róisín Murphy - You Know Me Better
One of the coolest women in the world 'busking' in Covent Garden. Also blessed with the most wonderful voice. Thanks to
Rob for sending this my way.
Are we there yet?
An extraordinary piece of writing by Oliver Burkeman. You should subscribe to his
twice monthly email newsletter.
"Are you still under the illusion that you'll one day reach a point in your life where you no longer have any problems?"
Martin Crane’s hideous chair was the true star of Frasier
Another wonderful piece of writing about the quality of the writing of the show. Feeling quite nostalgic for Frasier now and my teenage crush on Daphne.
Operation Odessa
A Russian mobster, a Cuban spy and a smooth operator from Miami scheme to sell a Soviet submarine to a Colombian drug cartel for $35 million. Hard to believe this is real. Found this whilst aimlessly looking for junk to watch on Netflix and actually pretty entertaining.
When two screens isn't enough
I am simply in awe at this set up. A very happy two monitor user and have been for a long time but maybe its time I upgraded...
Turtle slide
Just watch and enjoy. <insert quote about sliding into weekend here?>
That'll do for now.
Love as always,
Andy x
