Occasional links - 20.11.2021

Hello,

I'm up early to cobble together (carefully assemble) a list of links for you. The cat has been fed, the heating has just kicked in and I might pop a pot of coffee on. A busy week but important to make time for sharing things that have been found along the way as I look at the internet on my phone to dull a sense of pending doom about the world. In more cheery news I'm off to present to some young adults today about why architecture is for them and what a section is. Hoping to encourage a more diverse future for our profession.

Anyway, some links for you.

Thanks London, you’ve been great…But now moving to Scotland
Loch Tummel House, Strathtummel, Pitlochry. Just look at it. A beautiful remote and modern house that looks like it wouldn't take much to refurbish. And that view of the loch and swimming every day!

WHAT TEMPERATURE IS IT ON 'SUCCESSION'?
Or: Do rich people feel? My obsession with Succession continues. Everything is intentional! Thanks to Helen for the link. Obviously contains spoilers if you aren't up to date with it.

The bits of the London Underground which are actually, well, underground
Interesting. And love a good infographic.

Wealth shown to scale
More infographic joy. Scroll right (shift and mouse wheel if on a desktop). Thanks to Thomas for the link.

People often ask me how I tell the difference between ADHD and Autism
Yeah I'm still banging on about it. No I'm unlikely to stop any time soon. ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and ADHD often go hand in hand apparently. And here's a neat little graphic that shows that ADHD could / should be considered as a spectrum of traits and experiences. Oh and here's Rory Bremner talking about his experience of ADHD with others. Maybe this section will be the brain link from now on.

SKYFALL and SPECTRE sure are an interesting contrast in colour direction techniques!
A wonderful thread comparing colours and tones from the two films, and what might be communicated by those colour choices. Pure colour analysis heaven.

Cabbage - lost and found
The dog link. More than just a lost and found story and the intro is particularly moving.

The nocturnal beauty of the urban underpass – in pictures
This one spread like wildfire on social media but if you haven't seen it it's rather special. The book can be purchased here. Karl Hyde is one part of Underworld and also founded a design agency called Tomato. Many years ago my friend Ed was fortunate enough to grab a load of their art and design books as they were moving studio and had a huge clearcut. Still jealous! Link thanks to Wheel Linton.

All the countries scaled and shaped correctly
Seems like we're having a bit of an infographic week this week. Not sure how that happened but thanks to Dominijk for the link.

Restoration of a 17th century painting (c. 1617) hiding underneath two centuries of yellowed vanish
I assume the vanish is a typo. Feels a bit like when I clean the light fittings in the kitchen. But impressive all the same.

That's all for this week and hope you have a super weekend.

Love as always,

Andy x
