Occasional links - 11.07.2021

Hello and good morning,

Hope you are having a lovely weekend and excited to receive some links in your inbox.

Since the last instalment I've completed the coast to coast ride (a wet, very very wet 325km) and also ridden a loaded cargo bike to Brighton via my favourite hilly route. For doing these silly things people have been generous, very generous, and I have raised £3,225 + £692 in gift aid for Coram. It's always hard finding cycling challenges that might inspire people to put their hand in their pockets as being on a bike is not a chore for me. There's always the constant need to find something that little bit harder and the cargo bike ride definitely hit the spot! Collectively we have raised £83,953 which is great and hope that number continues to grow! Anyway, enough euphoric celebration of cycling exploits, here's your damn links.

A dog driving a motorcycle
Your dog link for this week. Via Grace I think. See also rescue dogs getting their first grooming. Ok, extra one of a puppy in a life vest having a swimming lesson.

Ian Wright remembers childhood teacher
And associated video that goes with the above. Be right back, just finishing up the prep for this French onion soup. And since we're loosely talking about football, how about a thread of football pitches in the most amazing of locations.

Why was the sea on fire?
That image that went around the world of a ball of flames in the sea explained. And why boats were spraying water at it.

one family, 30 years, 30 photographs
I found this rather moving in a number of ways. Beautiful photography.

Beautiful holes in the road
An Instagram account of images of potholes being filled with mosaics. Really really wonderful.

A website featuring hundreds of simple engineering GIFs
Via Present & Correct of course.

Alexei Sayle's Lockdown Bike Ride
How lovely. Re-discovering the joys of cycling.

Abandoned European tollbooth kiosks
Also, abandoned border checkpoints of Europe. Again via Present & Correct.

Six Days in Suez: The Inside Story of the Ship That Broke Global Trade
I remain fascinated by this whole story and the wider global impact. Really good long article on how it all unfolded.

Restoration old watch
Deeply soothing video of restoring an old watch found on the street.

That's all folks. Maybe see you next week and hope you have a lovely weekend.

Love as always,

Andy x
