Occasional links - 09.04.2022 👋🏻🥶🌞

Hello,

It has been a while as they say. It's cold but sunny here and the cat is asleep on the desk next to me with her feet on the radiator and her belly in the sunshine. What a life they lead - treats, belly rubs, naps... I'm going to drag myself out on my bicycle, I don't feel like it but know I always feel better for doing it.There have been lots of reasons not to send this out recently but mainly that it's more work at the end of a week and no one needs more work and admin at the end of the week.  Who knows when we will send another one...

Anyway, here are a few things that you might like.

Megatron Memories
A UFO style restaurant with robot waiters launched in 1990. Fascinating! This feels linked in some way.

Stunning timelapse of the Earth rising over the Moon
...as captured by Japanese lunar orbiter spacecraft Kaguya.

Factory girls: Helga Paris’s Women at Work
In 1984, the German photographer spent several weeks at a state-owned clothing factory in East Berlin capturing female employees and their ‘unforeseen beauty’

The greatest Tetris player in the world
"It's funny," I told Flewin. "We have an old Nintendo Game Boy floating around the house, and Tetris is the only game we own. My wife will sometimes dig it out to play on airplanes and long car rides. She's weirdly good at it. She can get 500 or 600 lines, no problem."

What Flewin said next I will never forget.

"Oh, my!"
Yeah, this is a great story!

Why We Use “lol” So Much
More nuanced and interesting than you might think.

Tomorrow's the first year end for my limited company, so I've written about it
My friend Anna wrote a little summary of what happened in year one. I love the idea of doing this and reflecting on one's successes and thinking of the future. Clear and concise as you might imagine from Anna.

When your memory resets every 15 seconds
No, you're crying! With apologies for the terrible music.

So I work at a doggy daycare and this was them all going out to the big play yard
Delightful. Thanks to Grace and David for sending this my way.

Alvin & The Chipmunks
In the late '80s someone pumped out an "Alvin & The Chipmunks" cassette tapes of '80s new-wave and pop hits. 30 years later some guy found it, slowed it to 1/16th speed, and revealed what was secretly the most important postpunk/goth album ever recorded
Original source here.

This is mesmerising if you watch to the end, all the metronomes will synchronise
I'm sorry, what? My head hurts thinking about this.

New practice Roach Matthews: ‘The joke that cycling is the new golf seems to be true’
I always said I wouldn't use this place for self-promotion. But then I always said I didn't want to start my own architecture firm. Anyway, James and I had the chance to talk about ourselves in a public forum and we're damn proud of it. Feels like having a little manifesto out there and sets the tone nicely for our future work. (try it in a private tab if it won't let you read it)

</end shameless self-promotion>

Love as always,

Andy x
