Hello,
…and a good morning to you. I was going to take a break this week but my notes app is bursting with good stuff to share despite me trying to spend less time online. The post it note on my screen saying “THE ANSWER IS NOT INSTAGRAM / TWITTER” has been a useful reminder of this. Especially in bright pink.
When you read this I will be awaking in a field having camped out in a bivvy bag with some friends. Probably wet, cold, tired but ultimately very happy to be outdoors. We’re having a go at the
King Alfred’s Way and have high expectations. Whatever you’re up to this long weekend (in the UK) have a lovely time and hope you have a break and a bit of fun too. Here’s some things I found interesting this week and maybe you might too.
Is free will an illusion?
Let’s start off with a chunky long read from one of my favourite writers, Oliver Burkeman. As a friend and I jokingly say to each other to take the piss… ‘really makes you think’. However in this instance it’s true. Quite a lot to think about.
Drum and bass on the bike - Hyde Park Special
I found this particularly joyful on Weds. Great music, great fun and who wouldn’t like a DJ on a cargo bike? Love it. Thanks to
Dommy for sending over. Absolutely made my day.
The Harrow Dominion Cinema
This one sent archi-twitter wild this week due to the discovery of an incredible 1930’s Art Deco cinema behind a 1970’s overcladding job which everyone had seemingly forgotten about. Here’s a
good shot of the original in its hey day. More Art Deco cinemas here in this
wonderful Twitter thread.
Buying a PC with Dell: My Journey Into Hell
God this is painful. But hilariously written. I’ll stick with Apple a little longer I think. Via
Daringfireball.
Bob Mazzer began photographing the people on the tube during his daily commute
Exceptional photos in this Twitter thread. Lots of character of life on the underground.
Don’t develop a 100% passion for architecture. Don’t be blinded by the word passion.
Replace architecture with your chosen profession and this is absolutely superb on advice. Being creative is hard if you don’t have any other experiences to draw on. Easier said than done perhaps but sound advice all the same.
This dog is better than Tom Cruise
Yeah, this is your dog link. Thanks to my long suffering friend
Vaughan for the link. And how about a dog looking after a baby seal I hear you say, well I have
just the thing.
An impossible intersection in Paris
When you drive into this zone it’s impossible to get out. No idea why I found this so amusing. Just liked the idea of angry Parisiens in stuck with their Twingos and shouting at each other I think.
The best accidental Partridge of the week
Just absolutely sublime, yet so painful to watch. Like Steve Coogan was doing it. Thanks Matt.
London hipster coffee shop names
Visually represented. Thanks to Chrissy for the link.
Love as always,
Andy x
