Hello,
The wild wild weather seems to have eased in the UK and there's a real danger temperatures will rise enough that I will be able to send my winter down jacket back for repair. The birds are singing outside the studio right now and I can hear children playing and people mowing their lawns. Lovely stuff! I'm off on a bicycle ride to the coast tomorrow and going to have a little bob around in the sea hopefully.
Here's a few interesting things I found on my travels around the interweb this week.
The Battle of SHARKS!
Probably the most amusing video you will see about planning policy and sharks this year. Trust me. Thanks Aaron for the link and congratulations on your promotion x.
Orbis
A free resource that estimates how long a journey might have taken in the Roman Empire. Via

The anatomy of a grown-up apartment
An amusing look at some of the cliches we all come up with furnishing our homes. Some a little too close for comfort perhaps. Thanks to Wheel Linton for the link.
Now that CDs are dead it’s more difficult to display your identity and taste in an incidental-looking but deeply deliberate way. This is where a record player comes in. A record player is eccentric. A record player is considered. A record player is so impressive and yet useless that its main value will lie in people approaching it and saying, ‘Oh, a record player!’ and you will say, ‘Yes,’ and that’s where the conversation will end.
A battery commercial in Japan
Wait for it.
They're not listening to you
You know the feeling. That's weird, I was just talking about that and now being served an ad for it. I recently turned the microphone access off for Instagram on my phone as was so paranoid about this but it turns out I needn't have done that. This excellent thread explains why 'they' don't need access to audio to make these connections. Thanks to
Luke for the link.
Your wild and precious life
Might be a bit too chewy and existential for a Sat morning but found this video really interesting about re-framing priorities for our lives. Lots of us seem to reconsidering priorities at the moment.
It’s so easy to get lost in your daily life: there are so many “urgent” and “annoying” things that you forget that actually every day is special, sort of. And even more so the days we have with friends and family. I know watching a video like this can hit pretty hard. But at least for me, the message it tries to convey does make me actually change my behavior. Reprioritize things. You know. Hope it had a similar effect for some of you.
A 4-Day Workweek for 5 Days’ Pay?
This leads nicely on from the previous link. Thanks to NZ Chris for the link. We really want to base
our studio around a four day week and are passionate that we make it work.
The goal, he said in an email, is to get the same amount of work done in fewer hours for the same pay. “If we find that we’re all working the same number of hours as before but in four days, then we’ve missed the opportunity this trial presents us with,”
and...
Essentially, Unilever is testing what the British historian and writer C. Northcote Parkinson theorized was the nature of man and time. “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion,” he wrote in 1955.
So many quotable parts of the article but well worth a read.
Half-ass stuntmen don't really think long-term
Johnny Knoxville at 50. A really interesting interview.
Bees and time
Do bees get jet lag?
The dog link
You thought I'd forgotten didn't you?
Have a super weekend and see you next week.
Love as always,
Andy x
